Let's make scrunchies!
A beginner sewing workshop for everyone

Did you know: The scrunchie was invented in the 1960s, but it was patented in 1987 by the late Rommy Hunt Revson.
I call this a workshop but it's really a play-shop! We'll go over the basics of sewing construction, materials and tools, and some budget-friendly tips. And then you'll finish your own scrunchie! I can tailor this class for any group, any age and skill.
I'm Allie, your workshop facilitator. I have designed clothing, therapeutic cushions, gardens, websites, and more in my 10+ years as a multidisciplinary designer. I can't wait to introduce you to the ancient (and relaxing) art of sewing by hand!
I started The Green Arts to provide ecological design services, and to share design and making skills in workshops that are fun and educational. I'm based in West Hartford, and offer services throughout Connecticut, and worldwide online.

This workshop can be adapted to any grade level to explore science, art, and technology topics in a hands-on project. Geometry, color theory, engineering, math, and material science are just some applications.
Families
Here's a great way to fight boredom during school vacations or anytime! Families can make scrunchies together for education enrichment, holiday gifts, or just for fun and curiosity. Makes a great birthday party activity too!
