Permaculture design is ultimately a system-design process applied to human environments. It has parallels with project management, human-centered design, architecture, and landscape restoration.
As a permaculture designer, I am particularly looking at resource requirements, flows, loops, and waste in every part of every system within a project.
My task is to arrange the elements of a project into a system of systems, and to do this in a way that is restorative and regenerative for humans and non-human nature.
As such, permaculture has applications far beyond private landholdings and organic gardening.*
Permaculture is a series of principles and techniques that allows people to restore landscapes and societies in ways that are beneficial to both ... It's a system that provides care and the ability for the environment and people to thrive. - Rosemary Morrow
